Hey, everyone. Let's take a look at this question. Together, smooth muscles play a crucial role in the following physiological functions except which is it? Answer choice. A peristalsis, answer choice B uterine contractions, answer choice, C respiration or answer choice D regulation of blood vessel diameter. Let's work this problem out together to try to figure out which of the following answer, choices do not involve smooth muscles. So in order to solve this question, we have to recall what smooth muscles are involved in to determine which of the following answer choices do not utilize smooth muscles. And we can recall that smooth muscles have involuntary contractions. So looking at or answer choices, which of the following involves those involuntary contractions. And we can see that in answer choice C it says respiration, which we know that respiration is related to the respiratory system, which we know that the respiratory system involves voluntary contraction. Since the respiratory system utilizes structures such as the diaphragm and in intercostal muscles, which are skeletal muscles. So answer choice C does not utilize smooth muscles. So answer choice C respiration is the correct answer. And all other answer choices are incorrect. Since peristalsis, uterine contractions and the regulation of blood vessel diameter involve smooth muscles. So they are incorrect. I hope you found this video to be helpful. Thank you and goodbye.

Textbook Question

Some athletes will consume only protein for several days before a competition, which reduces the amount of glycogen in both the muscle fibers and the liver. What effect would this have on their ability to perform activities that require short, powerful bursts of activity? How would it affect their ability to perform endurance activities?
