Everyone. Let's take a look at this question together which of the following describes a receptor potential. Is it answer choice? A it is typically generated in the axon of a neuron and propagated along the axon. Answer. Choice B, it is graded and proportional to the strength or intensity of the stimulus. Answer. Choice C it follows the all or nothing principle where a stimulus either triggers a potential or it does not or answer choice. D all of the above. Let's work this problem out together to try to figure out which of the following answer choices best describes a receptor potential. So in order to solve this question, we have to recall what we have learned about a sensory receptor potential to determine which of the following answer choices is the correct answer. And we can recall that sensory receptor cells which are specialized cells are crucial for detecting specific stimuli. Of which that specific stimuli includes things such as light, sound pressure, temperature or chemicals. And that receptor potential represents the initial electrical response to the stimulation of the sensory receptors, of which that stimulation of the sensory receptors has a certain strength or intensity. So the receptor potential is graded and proportional to the strength or intensity of the stimulus. So answer choice B is the correct answer and answer choice A and C are both incorrect. Since answer choice A which says that it is typically generated in the axon of a neuron and propagated along the axon and answer choice B which says that it follows the all or nothing principle where a stimulus either triggers a potential or it does not both describe an action potential and not a receptor potential. So answer choice B is the only correct answer choice. I hope you found this video to be helpful. Thank you and goodbye.
