Video transcript

Hey, everyone. Let's take a look at this question together. The white matter of the cerebrum gets its name from the appearance of what is it? Answer choice. A mitochondria, answer choice B collagen, answer choice C myelin or answer choice D Golgi apparatus. Let's work this problem out together to try to figure out which of the following answer. Choices best explains how the white matter of the cerebrum gets its name. So in order to solve this question, we have to recall what we have learned about the components of the white matter of the cerebrum to determine which of the following explains why it is called the white matter. And we can recall that the white matter of the cerebrum is composed of myelinated nerve fibers. And those myelinated nerve fibers are an important component as the myelin that is found in those nerve fibers is a fatty substance surrounding the nerve fibers providing that insulation and giving them the white color. So the presence of these myelinated nerve fibers which are nerve fibers surrounded by myelin explains why the white matter is referred to as the white matter of the cerebrum. So, answer choice C myelin is the correct answer. And all other answer choices are incorrect since the mitochondria collagen and Golgi apparatus are not responsible for giving the white matter the appearance of being white. I hope you found this video to be helpful. Thank you and goodbye.
