Welcome back everybody. Our next question says, what is the primary purpose of the serous fluid found in the peritoneal cavity? A and digestion B and nutrient absorption C lubricating organs or D providing structural support. So let's recall that, that serous fluid is that very thin layer of fluid in between the double layer of serous membranes. So it's within the serous membranes and surrounds that perineal cavity where your digestive organs are. So when we look at the purpose here, when we look at choice, a digestion and B nutrient absorption, serous fluid is not directly involved in either of these processes. These processes are happening within those digestive organs like the stomach and the small intestines with nutrient absorption primarily in the small intestine. So we have left choice C lubricating organs and B providing structural support. Our answer here is Choice C lubricating organs. As you can imagine, if you think of a thin fluid filled labor layer surrounding these organs, it prevents damage to organs from friction and damage from the movement of the muscles within the system due to contraction and relaxation of muscles in the digestive system, for instance. So you don't want those organs rubbing against each other or being kind of smushed against each other without this cushioning and lubrication between them. Choice d structural support is not the main purpose of the serous fluid. It helps maintain structural integrity by protection, protecting them but doesn't provide a lot of support in the way. Um Connective tissue does for instance. So once again, the primary purpose of serous fluid in the perineal cavity is choice C lubricating organs. See you in the next video.
