Hey, everyone. Let's take a look at this question together which of the following blood vessels drains the distal portions of the large intestine and the rectum. Is it answer choice. A, the superior mesenteric vein. Answer choice B, the splenic vein, answer choice C inferior mesenteric vein or answer choice D, the gastric veins, let's work this problem out together to try to figure out which of the following blood vessels drains the distal portions of the large intestine and the rectum. So looking at our answer choices, we can see that answer choice A and answer choice C are similar in that answer. Choice. A is the superior mesenteric vein. And answer choice C is the inferior mesenteric vein. And answer choices B and D are completely different. While looking at answer choice B, we see the splenic vein which we know is the vein that is responsible for draining the spleen and answer choice. D, the gastric veins are the veins that are responsible for draining the stomach. And since the spleen and stomach are not the large intestine and the rectum, we can eliminate answer choice B and answer choice D and now we only have to compare the superior mesenteric vein and the inferior mesenteric vein. And we note that the superior mesenteric vein, it's the vein that is responsible for the draining of the small intestine and not the large intestine as well as those proximal portions and not the distal portions. So, answer choice A can also be eliminated, which means that by the process of elimination. Answer choice c the inferior mesenteric vein is the correct answer. Since the inferior mesenteric vein is the vein that is responsible for the draining of the distal portions of the large intestine and the rectum. I hope you found this video to be helpful.
