Hi, everybody. Our next question says which of the following statements describes hormones. A, a type of chemical substance that affects the functioning of specific organs and tissues in the body by binding to specific receptors. B A molecule that acts as a messenger between nerve cells. C A compound secreted by the body's exocrine glands or D A substance that facilitates enzyme activity in the body. Well, in this question, it almost might be easier to work by a process of elimination here because right off the bat, we can look at uh Choice B asking for a messenger between nerve cells and that would be neurotransmitters, not hormones. So we can eliminate choice B then we look at C A compound secreted by the body's exocrine glands. Those would just be exocrine secretions. Remember that exocrine glands secrete their products via ducts. And examples would be sweat, digestive enzymes and mucus but not hormones. Uh and they don't bind to receptors and they're not messengers either. And then d A substance that facilitates enzyme activity in the body. Um that would be a coenzyme or co factor, which would be a substance, usually a vitamin or a mineral that is necessary for an enzyme to carry out its function in case of specific enzymes. So, not choice d that leaves us with choice a a substance that affects the functioning of specific organs and tissues by binding to receptors. And that would be a good description of hormones. They are mess chemical messengers and bind to specific receptors to affect whatever um they're going to cause to happen. So in this case, sometimes it can be easier when the other answer choices are very specific and described on something that is definitely not your answer that can kind of help you feel confident in a sort of more generic sounding answer like choice. A so again, hormones are choice a a type of chemical substance that affects the functioning of specific organs and tissues in the body by binding to the specific receptors. See you in the next video.
