In this video, we're gonna take a look at how to name A means now a means are compounds which have one or more alke groups connected to a nitrogen atom. Here, we're told to write a name for the following. Amen. All right. So we're gonna do that by employing these three steps. Step one says to identify the alko groups connected to the nitrogen atom. Step two says to name the alki groups, alphabetically as substituents. If there are identical out kill groups, use the numerical prefixes of die or try. And then step three, we end the name of the compound with a mean. And when we're writing out the name, we write the name without dashes or spaces. So here, if we take a look, this is a three carbon alko group, the bond is on the metal carbon. So this represents isopropyl. And here we name the, we add to the end of the name a mean. So all one word isopropyl amine, this will be the name of this particular amine.

So here we're gonna use the IAC naming system for primary amines. Now, carbon chain here wouldn't, is named as an alkane. But here we're gonna change the e ending of the alkane name to a mean. And we're gonna say we use numbers to indicate the location of the nitrogen. If we look at this structure here, we have to write the systematic name for the following. I mean, so this would be carbon 12345 and 66 carbons is hexane. But remember it's an amine, not just a simple alkane anymore. So the e gets dropped out, it becomes hexamine. And then we have to locate where the nitrogen is located. Um Well, what's found? It's on carbon number one. So we'd say that this is one hexamine. This would be the name of this particular primary amine.

In this video, we're gonna take a look at how do we name symmetrical versus asymmetrical means? Now, here we're going to say that secondary and tertiary means can be symmetrical or asymmetrical by symmetrical. We mean that all our kill groups are identical for asymmetrical. That means at least one LQ group is different. If we take a look here, it says provide a systematic name for the following a mean. Well, this structure is asymmetrical because my two lke groups are not the same. So step zero, if symmetrical follow steps in common naming. Well, here it's not symmetrical. So we can ignore step zero, step one. We're gonna say if asymmetrical, we're gonna identify the largest carbon chain connected to nitrogen and name it as an amine. Here, we're going to use numerical location to indicate locational nitrogen. So the larger chain is this one. So we're gonna number it from the end closest to the nitrogen. So 123, three carbons is propane, but we drop the e ending to a mean. So it becomes propan amine. Then we're going to say here that the nitrogen is connected to carbon number one. So this would be one propan amy. Now go to step two, name other al Q groups, alphabetically as N substituents if they are identical alki groups used in numerical prefix, die. Well, here this one is 12 carbons. It's an ethyl, it's attached to the nitrogen. So it's an N ethyl. So this would be N ethyl, one propan amine. Now step three, this is stuff we've known from long ago in terms of naming different types of organic molecules. So here we'd use uh to separate numbers, we'd use commas and to separate letters from numbers, we'd use dashes, letters are not separated from letters. All right. So again, step three is something we've been doing consistently when it comes to naming under the IUP naming system. So that's why it's kind of grayed out in this box. It's something that you should always have in the back of your mind in terms of naming. But for this particular mean, it's N Ethel one Propan Amine as the name.
