Hi, everyone. Let's take a look at this practice problem together. Which of the following is a paired muscle that runs vertically along the front of the abdomen and is commonly referred to as the six pack muscle. The answer options are a external oblique, B, internal oblique, C transversus, Abdominus and D Rectus Abdominus. So we are looking for the muscle that runs vertically and is commonly known as the six pack muscle. So keep that in mind that will help us figure out the correct answer. Now, options A and B, the external and internal obliques are abdominal muscles. The external obliques are the outer most and the internal obliques are located deep to the external obliques. Now, the fibers in these muscles are both at an angle. So the fibers are at an angle, they do not run vertically. So we can eliminate options. A and B. Now option C, the transversus abdominus is also a abdominal muscle. And the word transverse in anatomy generally refers to the horizontal plane. So the transverses of dominus wraps around the abdomen horizontally, not vertically. So option C is also incorrect. The correct answer is the rectus abdominus. So this is a paired muscle that runs the length of the abdomen. And the reason it's referred to as the six pack muscle is because it has horizontal tendinous intersections that can create segments. And in well toned muscle, you get those bulges or the bumps creating the six pack muscle. So again, the correct answer is option D Rectus abdominus. All right, everyone. I hope you found this helpful and I'll see you soon for the next practice problem.
