Hi, everyone. Let's take a look at this practice problem together. What does the term Rectus indicate in a muscle's name? The answer options are A, that the muscle has two origins. B that the muscle is triangular in shape, C that the muscle fibers run parallel to an imaginary line and D that the muscle brings about abduction of the thigh. So in option A, if the muscle has two origins such as the biceps, bray eye in the arm or the biceps for Morris in the leg, we would use the prefix by to indicate that not Rectus. So option A is incorrect. If we want a term that indicates the muscle is triangular in shape, we won't use Rectus either. So think of the deltoid, deltoid literally means triangular. So we've eliminated option B as well for option D A term that indicates that the muscle brings about abduction of the thigh would be abductor. So in the leg, there are four muscles, the abductor, longus, abductor, brevis, abductor, Magnus and AUC gracias, all of these muscles bring about abduction of the thigh, not Rectus. So Rectus is not in the muscle name. So we can eliminate option D as well. Now, if we look at the meaning of rectus in Latin, it means straight. Think of the rectus abdominus. It's a common abdomen muscle that runs vertically on either side of the midline of the abdomen. Now, the midline is an imaginary line and the rectus abdominus runs parallel to it and that is what option C is describing. So the correct answer is option C that the muscle fibers run parallel to an imaginary line. All right, everyone. I hope you found this helpful and I'll see you soon for the next practice problem.
