Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is at the base of all Pearson resources

Canada is a country that is rich in cultures, nationalities, and ways of thinking. As such, it is necessary that educational resources strengthen this aspect rather than silence it. Whether it be in terms of teaching to different types of learners or teaching about different aspects of Canadian culture and marketing principles, our titles incorporate and embed this diversity from the foundational level.

And as we are based in Canada, Pearson has made great efforts to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and Indigenous rights. We partner with Indigenous advisors for guidance on our resources and business, and each of our Canadian texts is seamlessly layered with these experiences. Within the Pearson resources, Indigenous perspectives are not tokenized, nor do they take the student out of a reading. Instead, our authors include thoughtful intersections to facilitate understanding. This is a cornerstone of our “Nothing about Us Without Us” policy.

Pearson has taken many steps to address DEI and Indigenous perspectives both globally, and within Canada. As an initial step, we have adopted a new Global Content and Editorial Policy to ensure all our titles and materials are accurate and respective of all student backgrounds. This process starts even before our authors begin writing, so the content feels natural and unobtrusive. Each of our Canadian titles have gone through these updates and this will continue for all new titles. We’ve also created a Report Bias Portal for anyone to inform our team of cases of bias or insensitive text within our products.

What’s Inside? Within the simulation, the learner takes the role of a sales rep at a carbon offsetting company. They are tasked with understanding the business, as well as potential clients, and must use social media to navigate a successful sale.

Learning Objectives: Students are asked to display domain and product expertise, listening and empathy, critical thinking and problem solving, and more.

Learning Outcomes: Students are able to manage multiple decision-makers with conflicting interests and will learn the essential parts of any sales cycle.

What are some of the common themes and challenges Marketing Faculty are facing across Canada?

After speaking to countless Marketing faculty from schools around the nation, our team assembled some of the most pertinent issues instructors like yourselves are facing. We feel that hearing about what others in a similar position are experiencing can help inform and bridge gaps in communication and educational discourse.

Some repeated issues include:

  • Academic Integrity
  • Student Disengagement
  • Class Preparedness
  • Employability Skills and Core Competencies

However, the tools and resources we have developed are built specifically to address these areas of student performance in the Marketing classroom. Like Ametros, Pearson’s learning platforms, Revel and MyLab Marketing, offer interactive and rewarding opportunities for students to engage and absorb class material.

We also offer mini simulations to support student employability skills. These allow students to participate in fictional professional roles and scenarios in which they have to apply class concepts and practice decision making to complete. These simulations are branched, meaning they vary depending on a student’s decisions. As a result, each learner has a unique experience and can see the impact of their choices.
