Overview

The new second editions of Pearson Biology, Chemistry and Physics for Queensland senior science classrooms have been developed by experienced Queensland teachers to address all the requirements of the revised QCE General Senior Syllabus 2025 v1.0 for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

To reduce teacher workload, only content that is relevant to the new QCE 2025 syllabi points has been included in the second edition resources. This means that teachers do not need to look to any other sources to cover the syllabus requirements, while also saving time in choosing which content from within the sereis does or does not need to be covered. Teachers are further supported with extensive, unmatched teacher support including full teaching and learning programs.

The content and concepts in this series are fully accessible to all students, written in accordance with the very latest developments and applications of science, literacy and instructional design to reduce cognitive load.

The new editions for Units 1 & 2 will be available in December 2024, with Teaching and Learning Programs available to support planning in Term 4.

NEW Science as a Human Endeavour sections

The second edition student books include new Science as a Human Endeavour sections, helping students to contextually reinforce learning and providing teachers with a trusted and convenient stimulus for the Research Investigation.

Situated at the end of chapters in each student book, the Science as a Human Endeavour sections are structured to support students in developing the foundational skills needed to enable development of science inquiry skills through the lens of science in the world around them.

 These new sections provide critical support students to launch into Research Investigation IA3 and draw upon building proficiency for the Assessment objectives 1, 2 and 3.

NEW Data Analysis tasks

The second edition student books include a new Data Analysis section following each Chapter review.

These sections provide practice tasks for qualitative and quantitative data relevant to the subject matter of each chapter, ensuring students have opportunities to respond to questions on a range of topics and using a range of data.

To prepare students for assessment, the Data Analysis tasks are structured to reflect the approach taken in the Data Test IA1 and are aligned with the Assessment objectives 2, 3 and 4.

NEW Skillbuilders and Worked Examples

The second edition student books include new Skillbuilders and Worked Examples covering all topics.

The Skillbuilders outline a method or technique, providing instructive and self-contained steps to support students in applying science skills when analyzing or utilising knowledge.

The Worked Examples use sequential steps of thinking and working, enhancing student understanding and application of formulas to subject matter through a research-based approach. Each Worked Example is followed by a Try Yourself task, allowing students to apply their learning to a similar problem and practice the skill.

UPDATED Skills and Assessment Toolkit

The Chapter 1 Skills and Assessment Toolkit at the start of each student book has been reworked and fully updated to meet the evolved requirements of the revised QCE 2025 Syllabus and to respond to the current needs of teachers and students.

The material in the Skills and Assessment Toolkits is presented for quick and easy reference and has also been enhanced, providing additional materials to support the Science Inquiry Skills and Assessment requirements.
