Hey, everyone. Let's take a look at this question together which of the following actions of aldosterone in the kidneys is true. Is it answer choice A? It can decrease sodium reabsorption. Answer choice B it can inhibit potassium secretion in the urine. Answer choice C it can increase water retention or answer choice D all of the above. Let's work this problem out together to try to figure out which of the following answer choices contains an action of aldosterone in the kidneys. That is true. So in order to solve this question, we have to recall what we have learned about the role of aldosterone in the kidneys to determine which of the following statements is a true statement. Starting off with answer choice A which says that aldosterone can decrease sodium reabsorption. Well, we know that the function of aldosterone in the kidneys is not to decrease sodium reabsorption and instead it increases sodium reabsorption. So answer choice A is a false statement since aldosterone promotes sodium absorption in the kidneys, which means that answer choice A cannot be the correct answer. Next, we have answer choice B which says that aldosterone can inhibit potassium secretion in the urine, we can also recall that the function of aldosterone in the kidneys is not to inhibit potassium secretion in the urine. And instead it enhances potassium secretion in the urine. So answer choice B is also a false statement as aldosterone promotes potassium secretion in the urine and not inhibits. So, answer choice B cannot be the correct answer either. And since we've identified answer choice A and B as being false statements, answer choice D can also be eliminated. Since all of the above answer choices cannot be true. If we have one or two answer choices that are false, which means that answer choice C must be the correct answer, which we note that answer choice C is the correct answer since it contains a true statement about the actions of aldosterone in the kidneys. As answer choice C says it can increase water retention, which is a true statement as aldosterone increases water retention by promoting sodium reabsorption. So answer choice C is the correct answer.
