Hey everyone, we're told that the bombardment of 2 13 polonium atoms with iron atoms produced element 1 10, which is dark stadium to 69. What are the other products formed in the reaction? And what is the balanced nuclear equation as we've learned, we can write our element in the following notation with X representing our element A representing our mass number and Z representing our atomic number. Let's go ahead and write what they've given us. They told us that we had polonium 2 13 Plus Iron 58. Now our products came up to dark stadium to 69 with an atomic number of 1 10 plus another product. Now let's go ahead and look at our periodic table and determine the atomic numbers of polonium and iron. So polonium atomic number comes up to 84 and irons is 26. So we can go ahead and determine the atomic number of our unknown by taking our polonium of adding 26 from our iron. And this is going to be equal to 1 10 plus the atomic number of our unknown. Now when we add our two values up, we get 1 10 equals 1, 10 plus our atomic number of our unknown. So this means that the atomic number of our unknown comes up to zero. So this tells us that we have a neutron which can be denoted with an N. And a mass number of one and an atomic number of zero. Now let's go ahead and balance out our mass number. So we have 2 13 from our polonium Plus 58 from our iron. Which is going to equal to 69 from our dark stadium plus the mass number of our neutron. When we calculate this out, we get to 71 equals to 69 plus a, which means that a. Is equal to two. So essentially we have two of our neutrons. Now let's go ahead and rewrite our balanced nuclear equation. So we have our polonium 2 with an atomic number of plus our iron 58 with an atomic number of 26. And our products come up to that dark stadium to with an atomic number of 1, 10 plus two of our neutrons. And this is going to be our final answer. Now, I hope this made sense. And let us know if you have any questions.
