All right, hello everyone. So this question is asking us which de orbitals would be positioned directly between the ligands in a complex with an octahedral shape. Here we have four different entry choices labeled A through D each proposing either two or three of the five possible D orbitals. Here, if I scroll down, we can see images of all five D orbitals. On the top, we have DXYDXZ and DYZ. And on the bottom, we have DX squared subtracted by Y squared and DZ squared. So recall first and foremost that in the case of an octahedral complex, the Liggins of that particular complex are going to lie at the XY and Z axes. And so from here, we have to identify which orbitals whose shapes are going to be in between the ligands themselves or in between the axes. And so in this particular case, there are two orbitals that would be pointing directly at the ligands because their lobes are directly on a particular axis, namely DX squared, subtracted by Y squared and DZ squared. So these two orbitals are pointing add the ligands themselves based on this, this means that the remaining three orbitals that's dxydxz and DYZ would be positioned directly between the ligands positions. This is because the dxydxz and Dyz orbitals are all oriented in between the axes and therefore in between the ligands themselves. And so there you have it, our answer is therefore going to be option a in the multiple choice or correction option C in the multiple choice because the D orbitals that would be positioned directly between the ligands in an octahedral complex or the dxydxz and DYZ orbitals.
