Hello everyone today. We are being given the following problem provide the name for the compound below. So this is naming an organic compound. And the first thing I wanna do is they want to identify the longest carbon chain and that is by counting across downwards. And so we're going to basically start from this top left one here, we're going to trace the longest route. So the circled carbons is the longest carbon chain. And if we count in there we note that there are eight carbons present. eight carbons is going to give us the suffix of octane. Next we have to identify any substitue ints. Substitue INts are essentially just carbon chains or any other parts of the molecule that are not in the parent chain. So we note that first substitue ints we have this one here, this one here and this one here. So the red ones or they're all red but the ones that involve just one ch three or one methyl group, we're going to say that we have two metals. And we have to name these substitue ints so that we can have the lowest number possible. So if we were to name this carbon chain, we're gonna start on the left here. one, 567 and eight. So we can say that we have one method at carbon too and one methyl at carbon five. So we have two metals and so this is going to translate to two comma five dash di methyl the di means two and we have methyl groups, numbers are always separated by commas and numbers and letters are always separated by dashes. And so not only do we have two metals, we also have a proposal. So we have one proposal and this is going to be at carbon # four. And so to name this, we're gonna say this is four dash proposal. So now that we have our substitutions, we're gonna rearrange them alphabetically. So we're going to arrange them alphabetically, but we're gonna ignore the prefixes. So the prefixes for this dimethyl is die. And we're gonna ignore that. And so we're essentially gonna say which comes first in the alphabet and M or P. It's gonna be the M. So our answer is going to be two comma five dash di Methyl dash four. And then we're gonna have our four pro bowl and then we're going to just attach our suffix of octane at the end there. And so this is going to be the name for this compound here. And with that we've answered the question overall. I hope this helped. And until next time
