Hi, everyone. Let's take a look at this practice problem together, which hormone helps to maintain and thicken the endometrium, creating a suitable environment for embryo implantation. The answer options are a estrogen B, progesterone C estradiol, D estrone and E Oxytocin. So, during the uterine cycle, the endometrium thickness fluctuates depending on hormone levels. Now, the endometrium must be thick and healthy. In order for implantation to occur after implantation, it provides blood supply to that implanted embryo. So what hormone is important for maintaining and thickening the endometrium option E Oxytocin recall that Oxytocin triggers uterine contractions for childbirth and is also responsible for milk ejection during lactation. So, option E is not the correct answer. Now note that option. A estrogen is a category of a female sex hormone and estrogen has three major forms. The three major forms are estrone estradiol and estriol. Now, when we use the term estrogen, we are collectively referring to all three forms in the uterine cycle. Estrogen's role is to thicken the endometrium and it also plays a role in ovulation after ovulation, estrogen levels rapidly decline. So, while estrogen does help to thicken endometrium, it does not help to maintain the endometrium throughout the entire menstrual cycle. So that means we can eliminate options. AC and D. The correct answer is option B progesterone. So, progesterone levels rise after ovulation in the luteal phase progesterone is what maintains and thickens the endometrium and helps support early pregnancy. So the correct answer is option B progesterone. All right, everyone. I hope you found this helpful and I'll see you soon for the next practice problem.
