Video transcript

Hi, everyone. Let's take a look at this question together. The female urethra opening is located closer to the vaginal and anal openings compared to males. This proximity increases the risk of infection due to the exposure to which bacteria is it. Answer choice A E coli answer choice. B salmonella, answer choice. C, Clostridium botulinum or answer choice D Listeria. Let's work this problem out together to try to figure out which of the following answer choices is the type of bacteria that can infect females easier than it can affect males. So in order to solve this question, we have to recall what we have learned about the female urethral opening and how it being located closer to the vaginal and anal openings when compared to males would increase the risk of infection due to exposure to bacteria. And we can recall that in females, the urethral opening is closer to the vaginal and anal openings when compared to males. And this close proximity increases the risk of urinary tract infections because of bacteria from the vagina and the rectum can easily migrate. So looking at our answer choices, which type of bacteria from the vagina and the rectum can easily migrate to that urethra opening in feet, males easier than it can in males. And we can identify answer choice A E coli which is a common bacteria of the digestive system, particularly the colon of humans and animals is one of the most common causes of urinary tract infections in both men and women. And since in females, the urethral opening is closer to the vaginal and anal openings. It gives e coli an easier path to migrate from the vagina and the rectum to the urethra opening. So answer choice. A E coli is the correct answer. And all other answer choices are incorrect. Since salmonella, clostridium, botulinum and listeria are all related to contaminated foods and not the female urethral opening being located closer to the vaginal and anal openings. So answer choice. A is the only correct answer choice. I hope you found this video to be helpful. Thank you and goodbye.

Textbook Question

Deana is a 4-year-old girl with a rare genetic defect that causes the Na+/glucose symporters in the proximal tubule to reabsorb fewer glucose and sodium ions than normal. Predict the effects this defect will have on the composition and volume of Deana's urine. Explain why you would expect to see increased activity of the tubuloglomerular feedback and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in Deana's kidneys.
