Examine social problems through the lenses of race, class, gender and inequality

Social Problems in a Diverse Society focuses on the significance of social inequality, race, class and gender as key factors in understanding problems in the US and worldwide. Author Diana Kendall makes the study of social problems interesting and relevant to today's students through authentic first-person accounts, up-to-date topics and contemporary examples.

The 7th Edition includes updated Social Media and Social Problems boxes that shed light on the ways that social media impacts social problems today. In addition, new learning objectives guide students through the text.

Hallmark features of this title

  • Authentic, first-person accounts show how the problems being discussed affect people as they go about their daily lives. These lived experiences encourage students to examine social life beyond their own experiences.
  • Social Problems and Social Policy boxes examine efforts to solve social problems through legislation, regulation or other means.
  • Social Problems in Global Perspective boxes invite students to think beyond our borders to consider how social problems occur and are addressed in other countries and regions.
  • Social Problems and Statistics boxes focus on how data is used to understand and solve social problems.
  • Critical Thinking and You boxes invite students to think critically about social problems and proposed solutions.
