  • Gives instructors a single resource for any medical terminology course or instructional format. The flexible format includes features optimized for either lecture support or use as an independent student workbook.
  • Promotes faster, more effective learning with a focus on word building. To help students quickly gain confidence in their skills and understanding, they are guided step-by-step through mastering relevant word parts, understanding word roots, and word assembly.
    • UPDATED: Anatomy and physiology content for the organs presented in the Building Terms section has been increased.
  • UPDATED: Gives students access to the field’s latest terminology and medical advances. All terms and definitions have been reviewed and updated, thereby improving the consistency with which the definitions and word part meanings are presented.
  • Provides a self-guided, exercise-driven approach for students to apply what they learn. A variety of exercises (case studies, fill-in-the-blank, labeling exercises and many more) help students actively strengthen their growing knowledge. Review quizzes appear frequently throughout every chapter to provide constant reinforcement and support review with a minimum of instructor guidance.
    • UPDATED: Reorganized Learning Objectives provide an up-front, quick preview of the information covered in each chapter.
    • UPDATED: Case Study and Practice Exercises have been reviewed and updated to better reinforce the Learning Objectives of each chapter.
  • Gives students a single source for all crucial areas of medical terminology. Coverage of terminology for all key body systems includes terminology for dermatology, orthopedics, cardiology, hematology, immunology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, urology, nephrology, obstetrics, gynecology, neurology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, and otorhinolaryngology.
  • Supports visual learning for students to make quick connections. Highly visual pages, beautiful art, and an abundance of photos bring medical terms to life.
    • UPDATED: An augmented art program more fully illustrates the organs being described and provides visual information to correlate with the textual content.
    • UPDATED: The revised design uses color schemes that are more accessible to students with visual difficulties.

  • Help students become fluent in medical terminology with Med Term Speak & Spell. To be fully fluent in a language, a person must be able to read, write, and converse accurately and clearly. We take the same approach to learning medical terminology– the foundational building block to a successful and safe career in healthcare. Med Term Speak & Spell is designed to start at a basic level and build the user’s comfort level and familiarity with terms, word parts, structures, spelling, and finally, pronunciation. Each Med Term Speak & Spell module is comprised of four parts:
    • Listen and View: The user listens to a pronunciation while viewing its associated image, connecting the pronunciation with the image, and then viewing the word in parts (where appropriate).
    • Listen and Identify: The student listens to a pronunciation while viewing its associated image, and then chooses the correct term from a pool of possible answers.
    • Listen and Spell: The user listens to a pronunciation while viewing its associated image, and then correctly spells the term. The student then clicks “view word parts” to see the term broken into its parts (where appropriate).
    • Listen and Pronounce: To give students the ability to practice their pronunciation, users listen to a pronunciation while viewing the associated image. They can then practice and record their own pronunciation and play it back to compare it to the correct pronunciation. Users can repeat these exercises as many times as they like.
