<v ->Project scope and project scope management answers</v> a deceptively simple question, but in many ways it is really the fundamental question for any project. It asks the question, what is the project about? When we talk about project scope, we're really asking a question of what are we trying to do? What is the purpose behind the project? And so you see, when we say project scope is everything about a project, we are being very literal about that. We want to know everything we possibly can about the project, not just in terms of the work content as it's going to be played out, but what the project is is expected to achieve, how it's expected to get there. In other words, project scope asks us to tell everything we can about that project we're about to engage in. This idea of developing project scope and the management of scope occurs very early in the project. If you think back to our project life cycle idea, we're really now just at the start of the project planning phase where we're kind of we've gotten through a business case and we know we want to go this route, but we really don't know what to do next, or we not really sure how we take that creative idea and transform it into something that can actually be accomplished. And so the elements of project scope that we're gonna talk about are based on these ideas you can see of conceptual development. We wanna understand what the concept is behind the project. What do we know about it? What is it supposed to do for us? We'll go into that. We're gonna talk about the scope statement. What is the scope statement consists of? What necessary work authorizations might we need? Is this something that's gonna require a lot of different signoffs? Is this project something that can be done on the basis of a simple informal go? Scope Reporting. Scope reporting, we're gonna talk about how we want to know how the project is going as we're going along. So we're gonna decide what elements of the project we want to pay attention to. What should we report on as we move through this project? What are the control systems that are gonna be in place so we know how the project is going? Interestingly enough, we're also concerned about project closeout. Now think about that for a second. We're just starting the project, so we're just trying to wrap our head around the idea of what it is we intend to do. And yet, at this very early stage in the process, in the back of our mind, we should also be focusing on what the closeout will consist of. How are we going to finish the project? How are we going to get it done? Who needs to sign off on it? All of these important components. So you see what makes Scope Management so interesting is that very early in the project's process, very far up front, we are managing and attempting to manage as much as we possibly can by getting all of these different systems in place to make sure the scope is all set, everything's in place to go once we get started
