Ch 28: Sources of Magnetic Field

Chapter 28, Problem 28

A closed curve encircles several conductors. The line integral ∲B .dl around this curve is 3.83 * 10^-4 T m. (b) If you were to integrate around the curve in the opposite direction, what would be the value of the line integral? Explain.

Hey everyone. So this problem is working with magnetic fields. It's asking us to consider a close loop that surrounds a long cable consisting consisting of cylinder shape conductors that are spaced apart by insulators. They give us the anti clockwise line integral value. And they're asking us to determine the value of the clockwise line integral, the same integral of B. D. L. Which is the magnitude of the magnetic field. So really this problem is just asking if you remember some of the basics of magnetic fields and their directions and their signs. So let's just recall that the magnitude of a counterclockwise um line integral is the opposite of that same line in a girl in the clockwise direction. And that's really all we need to remember for this problem. So our counterclockwise um value is 1.27 times 10 to the negative to Tesla meters, which means that our clockwise value, this is what we're searching. This is what we're looking for is the opposite of that. So clockwise is negative 1.27 times 10 to the negative to Tesla m. And we look at our possible answers. That's answer a That's all we have for this problem. See you in the next video

The current in a wire varies with time according to the relationship I = 55 A - (0.65 A/s^2)t^2 . (a) How many coulombs of charge pass a cross section of the wire in the time interval between t = 0 and t = 8.0 s? (b) What constant current would transport the same charge in the same time interval?

Textbook Question
As a new electrical technician, you are designing a large solenoid to produce a uniform 0.150-T magnetic field near the center of the solenoid. You have enough wire for 4000 circular turns. This solenoid must be 55.0 cm long and 2.80 cm in diameter. What current will you need to produce the necessary field?

Textbook Question
A solid conductor with radius a is supported by insulating disks on the axis of a conducting tube with inner radius b and outer radius c (Fig. E28.43). The central conductor and tube carry equal currents I in opposite directions. The currents are distributed uniformly over the cross sections of each conductor. Derive an expression for the magnitude of the magnetic field (b) at points outside the tube (r > c).
