Video transcript

Hello everyone. Today we are being asked to find the products for the following alkaline substitution reaction. If only mono substitution occurred. An important thing to note here is that we have an al cane reacting with BR two. Unless this is going to be a halogen nation substitution reaction. So hydrogenation substitution reaction when we're going to take a halogen and substitute it for another group. And so when you have B. R. Two in this situation you're going to have a home a little cleavage or a cleavage were in both, one electron goes to one atom and another electron goes to another atom. And this is done when you are exposed to heat, energy or UV light. Right so UV light or heat when reacting with this B. R two is going to create what's known as a roaming radical or a Be our radical here. And radicals only have one electron of course in this example here when we take this individual bond between carbon and hydrogen here we can say that this bond can break home elliptically as well. And so we're gonna have one electron to the hydrogen and the other go to this carbon giving us the following radical. And notice how we have a radical here on this carbon and a radical on this broom in here. Well, these two can come together and form the following product. Now note this can also occur at alternate positions as well. We see that this carbon here in the middle this carbon hydrogen can also break home elliptically where one electron goes to the hydrogen and one goes to this carbon. And in doing that will form an alternate radical species. When we have the carbon in the middle will possess the radical. And we can have a bro mean bond with this radical here to form the following product. And of course, we will have our HBR form a radical as well, since we can also have this hydrogen radical that can bond with a bro mean radical. And so these three are going to be our three unique products of this reaction. I hope this helped, and until next time.
