Chapter 14, Problem 91

The values of Ea = 248 kJ>mol and ΔE = 41 kJ>mol have been measured for the reaction H21g2 + CO21g2S H2O1g2 + CO1g2 (b) Considering the geometry of the reactants and products, suggest a plausible structure for the transition state.

Hello everyone today. We are being given the falling problem. Consider the following reaction. We have properly reacting with bahrain, propose a possible structure for the transition state. So first let's keep track of our carbons hydrogen and label them out. So we have our propellant Which is carbon one that's going to be involved with our methane. We are then going to have our carbon too, which has a hydrogen and then that is going to be double bonded to our third carbon That is bonded to two hydrogen. And then we have our boring some things that we can notice here in this chemical reaction is that we are going from a double bond to a single bond. We also can note that one hydrogen bond from our one of our boron hydrogen bonds. I was going to bond to a carbon. In fact, we can even say That our p two group is going to bond specifically two, our third carbon. And so the transition state, our transition state is going to look like this. We're going to have our first carbon on the left here which has brought into our carbon that has a hydrogen. They were gonna draw dotted lines to signify a partial bonding To that CH two group. and that stage two group is partially bonded to R. BH two Group. This carbon is bonded to that hydrogen and that hydrogen is lucy bonded to that boron. And so this is going to be our transition state for this chemical reaction overall, I hope this helped. And until next time
