Hello. Everyone in this video we're going to be looking at this practice problem where we want to perform the addition negative nine plus negative 19. So in this case you can see that we're adding two numbers that are both negative. So they have the same sign. So because -9 and -19 have the same sign. I'm going to treat this as a sort of addition. So I'll add 19 plus nine when I do that I get 28 Positive 28. But in this case recall that both of the numbers were negative. So it only makes sense for my answer to also be negative. So my true answer is a -28. And if we think of a number line, it makes sense for my answer to be negative because say I have this line here And that's that negative nine And I need to add -19. That means that I'll be adding a value that is to the left. So although addition is normally denoted going to the right on a number line because I'm adding a negative number, I need to go to the left times. And if I do that, if I can only go to the left, that means that my answer will only be more negative because going to the left means negative and if I had gone to the right then I could be positive. But in this case I'm going to the left. So my answer stays negative. So my final answer is negative and that aligns with answer choice B. hopefully this video helped and see you next time.
