Hi everyone. Here's our next question. Which one of the following is not true regarding innate behaviors. So remembering that we're looking for a statement that's false. Um Let's recall briefly from our content videos. What innate behaviors are these you might think of as instinctive behaviors they are inborn and inherited so they are not learned from parents or other individuals. So let's look at our answer choices. Choice A. Says they are inborn. Well this is true. We just um mentioned that they are inherited genetically and therefore not our correct answer. Choice B says they're helpful to individuals with long lifespans. Well let's think this through. If you have a long lifespan you have lots of time in which to learn behaviors from parents and from other individuals of your species. So when you're talking about behaviors that are inborn, that's going to advantage individuals short lifespans because individuals with short lifespans don't have the time to learn behaviors they need to in their short lives already have the behaviors that they'll need to survive and reproduce. So Choice B would be false because innate behaviors are helpful to individuals with short lifespans. So we're going to select Choice B. As our answer. But let's just look at our remaining choices. Choice C says they cannot be modified. Well this is true. A learned behavior. An individual could learn to do it better or learn to do something differently. But an inborn innate behavior cannot be modified. So Choice C. Is not correct. And finally Choice D they are shown by most individuals in a population. This is true because they're inherited genetically. Um presumably they will be present in those individuals in that population as they would have been evolved to give that population and advantage. Whereas a learned behavior might not be shown by most individuals, it will only spread within a group where the individuals can learn from each other. So innate behaviors are shown by most individuals in a population since they are inherited and therefore not our correct answer. So which is not true regarding innate behaviors. That's choice be helpful to individuals with long lifespans. See you in the next video.
