Hi, everyone. Let's take a look at this practice problem together, the facial muscles are striated muscles that connect the skin of the face to the bone of the skull to carry out significant roles in daily life including mastication and expression of emotion, which of the following facial muscles is located between the eyebrows and is responsible for frowning and wrinkling the brow. So one of the nice things about a muscles location is it can give insight to its function. We just need to know and recall where the muscles are located. So let's start by talking about options, C and D the Epicranius. So the word or the prefix ey means above and cranium means skull. So this is a muscle that is upon the skull. Now, epicranius recall is also known as occipital frontalis. It's a broad muscle with two bellies. You have the frontal belly, which is located along the forehead and the occipital belly is located at the back of the head. The frontal belly raises your eyebrows and wrinkles your forehead while the occipital belly retracts the scalp. So these muscles do not produce frowning and brow wrinkling. So we can eliminate options C and D. Option B, the depressor Anguita, this is a muscle that is responsible and pulls down the corners of the mouth. So depress means to pull down Angula in Latin means corners or the angles and ari in Latin means mouth. So this muscle is located at the corners of the mouth and pulls down the corners like when someone is frowning. So option B is also incorrect. The correct answer is option A corrugator supercilii. This is a paired muscle on the medial ends of the eyebrow. So towards the middle of the face and when contracted, it draws the eyebrows together and that causes frowning and wrinkling of the brow. So again, the correct answer is option A corrugator supercilii. All right, everyone. I hope you found this helpful and I'll see you soon for the next practice problem.
