Using Early Alerts in the Mastering Gradebook
Preview a better way to see which students are at risk, so you can give them your immediate attention.

This session examines the new Early Alerts system coming soon to your Mastering gradebook. Early Alerts uses an algorithm to assess key parameters of student performance including homework performance, test/quiz performance, correct on first try, and consistency. Your dashboard presents an easy-to-read ranking of high-risk, medium-risk and low-risk students, helping you see at a glance who needs your immediate attention and who is mastering the material. Terry Austin will walk through the Early Alerts Dashboard and show how it provides valuable performance data to help students succeed.

Professor Terry Austin
Terry Austin has been an instructor at Temple College for 15 years, and chaired Biology over a decade. During this time he has taught both semesters of a two-semester Anatomy & Physiology course and transitioned A&P to a fully online offering. He has also transitioned Microbiology into a hybrid offering, where all course components other than lab are fully online. He continues to oversee his online courses and develop and deliver content for his virtual classrooms. Austin holds a BS and MS in Biology from Midwestern State University with an emphasis in Mammalogy, and has completed doctoral work in Neuroscience at the University of North Texas. He is author of several VideoTutor modules for Pearson’s Mastering A&P and is a Faculty Advisor for both Mastering A&P and Mastering Microbiology.
