Legionella Awareness

Overview

This one-day course is aimed at anyone with responsibility for the control of legionella in the workplace including: building and facilities managers, maintenance professionals, landlords, business owners and directors, health and safety professionals, that have nominated responsibilities for water systems, as well as employers and staff in general. This course is designed to ensure compliance with the Approved Code of Practice and guidance L8 (fourth edition), the technical guidance document HSG274, the NHS England’s health technical memoranda on safe water in healthcare premises (HTM 04-01). Responsible individuals must complete an appropriate Approved Code of Practice and guidance L8 (fourth edition) course and safety training to successfully undertake and perform their duties.

 

Learning outcomes

The course programme covers:

  • Introduction to Legionella and Legionnaires' Disease 
  • Overview of Approved Code of Practice and guidance L8 and technical guidance document HSG274 
  • Legal Responsibilities of Duty Holders 
  • Legionella Risks in Man-Made Water Systems 
  • Risk Assessment for Legionella 
  • Controlling measures to prevent Legionella.

 

Assessment and training

The course is delivered through classroom-based tutorials virtually or face-to-face. You will be assessed through a multiple-choice written theory test.
