This four-day course is for operatives with limited knowledge of safe detection methods of buried utility services at Category 1; for those working to safely excavate and maintain holes and trenches using a variety of tools at Category 2; for those is for operatives and supervisors with limited knowledge of safe methods to support excavations at Categories 3 and 4. Category 5 builds on the competencies developed at Categories 3 and 4 and covers hydraulic frame shaft bracing. Participants will also learn the correct assembly and safe use of trench boxes.
This course has been developed in collaboration with major utilities construction firms and key stakeholders from across the industry.

- Installation of shallow trench shoring (verti-shore)
- Installation of shallow trench (small hydraulic frame and MAP Box)
- Installation of small shaft braces
- Push and dig with two frames
- Push and dig exercise
- Demonstrate usage of cable location devices to locate utility services
- Reinforcing the correct use of cable avoidance tool (CAT)/use of drawings for cable location
- The installation of a trench box
- The installation of a slit trench
