Support for Primary Literacy and English
Supporting every learning journey
Schools across the UK have told us they’re navigating the impact of Covid-19 on education by focusing on building pupils’ knowledge, skills, confidence and wellbeing in readiness for their next steps.
Below you can find resources and support for Early Years, KS1 and KS2 phonics, reading, writing and more, to support you to help your pupils make progress at their pace and in the ways that work best for them.
Bug Club
Bug Club is shown to deliver 30 months of progress in reading in just 18 months whilst developing a lifelong love of reading.*
What's more, we're making Bug Club even better! We want all children to be able to develop a lifelong love of reading, and to feel that our books are for them, whatever their ability, background or identity. That's why we're releasing 93 new Bug Club Independent titles written by a diverse team of authors, adding a Bug Club Reading Corner and much more. We've even introduced brand-new Primary Literacy Reading Pathways, a new way to buy all your digital resources from Bug Club (and Bug Club Phonics). You can add easy-buy matching print packs too!
* Results after 18 months from an independent study carried out by leading academics from UCL Institute of Education (IOE), in partnership with the Pearson UK Research Team. Research findings on progress are based on pupils being ahead of the control group.
Bug Club Phonics
Bug Club Phonics is a comprehensive phonics teaching programme centred around an accessible and inclusive teaching approach. Evidence shows that working together fosters a sense of social inclusion for pupils and boosts the performance of those that may be progressing more slowly. It is one of the DfE’s approved systematic synthetic phonics programmes.
The authors of Bug Club Phonics were also the authors of the seven-year Clackmannanshire study that proved systematic synthetic phonics to be the most effective way to teach children to read. Bug Club Phonics offers a fully resourced systematic synthetic phonics programme based on a proven progression.
