Eat Good, Feel Good
Entering college was a major change from high school. Who knew something could possibly take up so much of my time! Despite the virtual aspect of becoming a college student in 2020, finding the time to fulfill my basic daily routines was a struggle. With so much work and so little time to take care of myself, I found myself turning to fast food options far too often when I was constantly running between activities and meetings. I felt it was important for me to take the little free time that I had within my schedule to educate myself on proper nutrition.
Taking Time to Learn
In the short time that I spent, I learned more about food than I could have imagined. Learning that what we eat reflects how we feel, act, look, think (just to name a few) seems like it would be such common knowledge, yet I had never looked at it in that way. In that moment, not only was I looking forward to beginning to give my body the right amount of nutrients and vitamins that it needs, but I was also moving into it with hopes of my new dietary changes positively impacting my study habits.
Taking Action
Whenever I could find the time, I would search for quick and easy recipes that I could make. I soon got busy in the kitchen and created meals that I loved. I even found a local farmer’s market open every Wednesday, where I go to not only purchase fresh produce, but spend time outside away from my work, enjoying the live music and local business vendors. This change turned into a fun activity for me. I would try to fit as many colors as I could into my meals through different fruits, veggies, and grains. I started to love the way I was feeling soon after eating more nutritious foods. To make it easier for myself, I even started to prepare food on the weekends when I had more free time. That way, it was ready and set to be eaten at my convenience during the week.

Yes, eating fast food was an easy choice for me, but it negatively affected the way my body functioned. Making the switch was a great, beneficial decision for me, and has even inspired some of my other friends to find the time in their college schedule to do the same!
