About the speakers

Marcus Berg is a Professor of Physics at Karlstad University, Sweden and the winner of the University Pedagogical Prize 2017. He started working with peer instruction under Charles Chiu (Distinguished Teaching Professor, University of Texas at Austin) in 1997. Recently he has been interested in making introductory labs more conceptual in the sense of Wieman & Holmes (2018), and developed "Practical Exercises" for this purpose with Andersson and Haglund, also at Karlstad, for introductory mechanics, thermodynamics and quantum physics courses. Practical Exercises are assessed by Mastering Engineering and peer-instructed by Learning Catalytics. These courses have been offered through distance learning for years, but shutting down the campus alternative has presented new challenges and opportunities. Read more about Professor Marcus.
