About the presenters
Mary Young has been involved in education for over 30 years, working as a primary teacher, an EAL support teacher and a teacher educator in London and West Sussex, as a Global Citizenship adviser for West Sussex Local Education Authority and for a project on the Global Dimension funded by the Department of International Development.Mary previously taught with VSO for four years in Malawi, Africa and Bhutan and worked as a Curriculum Adviser for Oxfam Education, helping develop their definition of Global Citizenship.Mary is now a Senior Lecturer in Citizenship and Art at the University of Chichester and a freelance writer, trainer and consultant on Global Citizenship.
She co-authored the book, Global Citizenship: The Handbook for Primary Teaching (2002) Oxfam and Chris Kington Publishing, with fellow presenter Eilish Commins and has led staff INSET training in Global Citizenship in the UK and internationally.
Eilish Commins is a freelance writer, trainer and Global Citizenship consultant. She co-authored the book, Global Citizenship: The Handbook for Primary Teaching (2002) Oxfam and Chris Kington Publishing, with Mary Young and has led staff INSET training in Global Citizenship in the UK and internationally.
Eilish has over 30 years experience teaching in primary education in the UK and has worked with teachers on their support of children with English as an additional language, assessment across the school and whole school music development. She also spent three years working in Bhutan in primary and teacher education and in Nepal setting up, coordinating and writing curriculum resources for a refugee education project, which she has subsequently returned to in order to support the updating of the curriculum.
