About our author

Sara Davis Powell is professor emerita of Belmont Abbey College's Department of Education. She began her career teaching children and adolescents, primarily in middle level schools. After completing a degree in math and a master's degree in math education, she earned a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado and began teaching in higher education in 1995. Dr. Powell was named Outstanding Professor of Middle Level Education for 2015 by the National Association of Professors of Middle Level Education. In 2016, she received the Adrian Award for Teaching Excellence, selected for the honor by the Belmont Abbey faculty and students. Among the books Dr. Powell has written is the Pearson text, Introduction to Middle Level Education.
