An engaging overview of who teachers are, the work they do and the realities of life in the classroom

Your Introduction to Education takes readers on a journey into authentic classrooms and guides them through life in real classrooms lived by real teachers and real students. One of the core goals of this work is to help readers discover whether teaching is for them and, if it is, what their potential strengths and weakness as educators might be.

The 4th Edition has been heavily updated to address topics like preventing bullying, teacher evaluation, social media, cultural and linguistic diversity, LGBTQ students and teacher effectiveness research.

Hallmark features of this title

  • Where Do I Stand? self-exploration inventories occur at the beginning of each major section of the book. These inventories activate prior knowledge and provide scaffolded opportunities for reflection.
  • Application Exercises involving the analysis of video, scenarios, or artifacts foster active learning. Students are provided with feedback (in the form of a model response) for support.
  • Check Your Understanding quizzes, located at the end of each major section of text, present opportunities for readers to monitor their comprehension.
  • Shared Writing assignments at the end of each chapter allow all the students in a class to read and respond to the same prompt. Classmates can see each other's postings, creating a space for asynchronous discussion.
