For the two-semester A&P lab course.
Practical, active learning exercises with a visual approach
Visual Anatomy & Physiology Lab Manual (Stephen Sarikas) brings all of the strengths of the revolutionary Visual Anatomy & Physiology textbook (Martini/Ober/Nath/Bartholomew/Petti) to the lab. The 2nd Edition builds upon the visual approach and modular organization with new features to better prepare students for lab, maximize their learning, and reinforce important concepts. With an emphasis on clear, easy to follow figures (from the Martini Visual A&P text), frequent practice, and helping students make connections, the manual provides students with the powerful tools they need to excel.
The two-page lab activity modules seamlessly integrate text and visuals to guide students through lab activities—with no page flipping. Lab practice consists of hands-on activities and assignable content in Mastering® A&P, including new pre-lab quizzes, Review Sheets, and virtual lab study tools.
Also available with Mastering A&P
Mastering® A&P is an online homework, tutorial, and assessment program designed to engage students and improve results. Instructors ensure that students arrive ready to learn in lab by assigning content before class, and encourage critical thinking and retention with in-class resources such as Learning Catalytics™. Students can further master concepts after class through assignments that provide hints and answer-specific feedback. With a wide range of activities available, students can actively learn, understand, and retain even the most difficult concepts.
About the Book
A visual approach and modular organization that support the lab presentation
- The Visual Approach breaks out of the text-heavy model of other two-semester A&P lab manuals. Instead of long columns of narrative with occasional references to figures, this lab manual uses art to tell the story of A&P, with integrated text to support the image. Students can't read without seeing the corresponding visual, and they can't look at a visual without reading.
- The Modular Organization presents each lab exercise in a series of two-page lab activity modules. These two-page spreads give students an efficient way of tracking their progress through the lab activity. Students can see everything for a lab activity at a glance without flipping the page, which helps keep them from losing their way and getting confused.
- Learning Outcomes on each exercise-opening page indicate to students what they should be able to do by the end of the exercise. The assessments in Masteringâ„¢ A&P are also organized by Learning Outcomes, allowing instructors to assign, assess, and demonstrate teaching results by Learning Outcomes.
- In the Clinic boxes explain the material in the context of real world clinical use.
- Word Origins boxes simplify the learning by connecting terminology used in anatomy and physiology to word roots.
Frequent study and practice includes
- NEW! Pre-Lab Quizzes appear on the first page of each exercise and are assignable in Mastering A&P. These short, easily gradable quizzes allow students to check their knowledge of the content and lab procedure. This encourages them to read the material before coming to lab so that they can focus on the activity during lab time.
- NEW! Before You Move On… Looking Back, Looking Forward ends each exercise by summarizing key takeaway points and pointing out how those concepts will inform the next topic, prompting students to appreciate how topics build on one another.
- Frequent pencil-to-paper tasks within each lab activity are marked with black arrows to indicate where students need to write answers, fill in tables, record data, label, or draw.
- Making Connections questions wrap up each two-page lab activity and give students the opportunity to pause, internalize information, and then apply their understanding.
- Review Sheets at the end of each lab exercise offer a series of questions that assess students on all of the lab activities in the exercise. They include a combination of labeling, matching, fill-in-the-blank, short answer, coloring, and calculation questions. Assignable versions of the Review Sheet questions (without the coloring questions) are also available in Mastering A&P.
- NEW! IntegratedMastering A&P prompts direct students to online quizzes, animations, and videos in Mastering A&P to help them prepare for lab and review key lab material.
Custom Solutions
- NEW! Pearson Collections allows instructors to quickly and easily select individual activities to create a lab manual that's specific to their course. They can also add labs and/or other material to hone the lab manual to items they have available in their lab.
