Welcome to The Neighborhood, version 3, where every patient has a story

The Neighborhood, version 3, is a redesigned online community that tells the story of virtual patients. Patients are from diverse cultural, socioeconomic and family backgrounds and have a range of medical conditions. Using assignable, interactive tools, students practice making clinical decisions that weigh the impact of each patient's circumstances. Easy to incorporate into your class, The Neighborhood can be used as a course-specific supplement or across a curriculum.

Version 3 is now delivered with a companion eText. It has new Clinical Care Sims that challenge students to care for patients virtually.

Hallmark features of this title

An assignable eText with engaging activities

  • Longitudinal case studies follow families through their care journey.
  • Activities and discussion questions at the end of each unit prompt students to explore clinical issues affecting each household.
  • Photos and video vignettes illuminate patient stories.

Multimedia resources bring patient stories to life

  • Biographical information accompanies the story of each character and household. Embedded links highlight medical terms and pharmacologic agents.
  • Health histories are provided for each character. For most characters, students can view partial health records over the course of patients' care for a glimpse into healthcare milestones.
  • Articles from Neighborhood News lend broader context to The Neighborhood and its characters.

New and updated features of this title

  • EXPANDED: 11 stories of characters within the five most popular households have been expanded upon. This deepens the discussion of complex health issues within the context of family life.
  • NEW: The Neighborhood will continually evolve with the addition of family stories and assignable content. The changes will help address your changing classroom needs.

Features of MyLab for The Neighborhood, version 3

  • NEW: Clinical Care Simulations let students interact with Neighborhood characters and practice making clinical decisions in a virtual clinic or hospital setting.
  • Decision-Making Cases challenge students to make patient-care decisions based on their analysis of clinical data.
  • NEW: New Learning Paths are pre-created, objective-based paths designed for easy implementation. Organized by diagnosis and topic area, they let you easily select resources that meet course goals.
  • NEW: Each chapter now includes an engaging assignment correlating with the chapter's content. Assignment types include Next Gen NCLEX®-style questions, Decision Making Cases, pathophysiology animations and Clinical Care Simulations. Results automatically feed to the gradebook.
  • Next Gen NCLEX-style activities engage students in higher-level thinking by combining brief clinical scenarios with critical-thinking questions. In some cases, students review and analyze medical records.
  • NEW: Pearson eText is an easy-to-use digital textbook. It lets students read, highlight and take notes all in one place, even offline.
