Real managers, real experiences

Management vividly illustrates effective management theories by incorporating the perspectives of real-life managers. Through examples, cases and hands-on exercises, students get to experience management in “action” and see how the concepts they’re reading about work in today’s dynamic business world.

Featuring new co-authorship from Dr. Lori Long, the 16th Edition continues to address the evolving workplace. A focus on current management topics and emerging research, and streamlined and enhanced features ensures management and non-management majors alike will be better prepared to survive and thrive in the workforce.

Hallmark features of this title

  • Chapter openers present and then debunk common myths to demonstrate that the practice of management is not all about common sense.
  • Examples illustrate current management practices and show students how the concepts they’re reading about relate to real life.
  • A continuing Case featuring Starbucks shows students the practical application of concepts as well as the integrative nature of management.
  • End-of-chapter Cases ask students to assess a situation, helping them to apply management concepts to real companies like Uber, Major League Baseball and Lululemon.
  • Skill exercises related to creativity, collaboration, building trust, interviewing, motivating others, and acquiring power show students how to apply what they’ve just learned to real roles.

New and updated features of this title

  • NEW: Co-author, Lori K. Long, brings her years of experience in HR management, leadership development, culture cultivation, and innovation management to this edition. Introducing fresh insights and perspectives, she expertly bridges the gap between research and real-world application.
  • NEW: A focus on current management topics, such as remote and hybrid work, artificial intelligence, and employee well-being, is included throughout the text.
  • NEW: A new chapter on the evolution of management provides context to help students appreciate how practices evolve in response to changing societal, economic and technological factors. A chapter reorganization sees the entrepreneurship chapter as its own Module in response to the growing number of colleges offering this topic as a separate course.
  • UPDATED: Workplace Confidential, It’s Your Career, and Learning from Failure boxes have been supplemented to retain the text’s focus on real-world application.
  • REVISED: Management Practice boxes at the end of each Part have also been thoroughly revised, updating the Integrative Case, and adding a new Practice Your Data Analysis Skills exercise to help students hone this valuable career skill.
  • ENHANCED: End-of-chapter materials have been enhanced with new and updated cases, exercises, discussion questions and more.
