About our author

Michael G. Wood received his Master’s of Science in Biology in 1986 at Pan American University, now the University of Texas Rio Grande at Pan American (UT-RGV) in Edinburg, Texas. His graduate studies included vertebrate physiology and freshwater ecology. Presently he is a tenured Professor of Biology at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he has taught over 16,000 students in anatomy and physiology and biology during the past 39 years. His excellence in teaching has been recognized by the Del Mar College community, and he is the recipient of numerous honors, including the “Educator of the Year,” “Teacher of the Year,” and “Master Teacher” awards. Wood is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and enjoys attending their annual meeting when not involved in a writing project. He has a passion for science, enjoys reading playing guitar, and fishing the salt marshes of South Texas. Mike and his wife Laurie have two granddaughters and enjoy the grandparent life. They are dog-lovers, and enjoy traveling, gardening, and exploring the great outdoors. Mike is an avid angler and fishes the beautiful salt marshes and flats of South Texas.
