The Study Area of Mastering includes chapter Pre-Tests and Post-Tests. Each of these tests, however, is different from the tests in the Item Library:

  • Pre-Tests areat the beginning of each chapterwith each Pre-Test containing 10 questions. The feedback to the Pre-Test questions explains the correct answers and why students need to know the information in the question to succeed in the A&P course. The Pre-Test feedback also provides students with page references from the textbook and directs them to animations, tutorials, activities, and Pearson eText to make sure they understand the information in the question.
  • Post-Tests at the end of the chapter assess student progress and give them feedback. Individualized Study Plans also show them which important topics they need to study further. Each Post-Test provides 10 questions per chapter.
  • New study tools and assessments in MasteringA&P® features:
    • Ten brand new Video Tutors that feature award-winning teacher Lori Garrett walking students through key basic concepts A&P students should know before coming into the A&P course but often don’t. The key concepts covered include Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonds, Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, Hydrogen Bonds, General Cell Structure, Cell membrane structure, Diffusion, Osmosis, and Cell Cycle. Each Video Tutor also includes multiple choice questions that include hints and specific wrong-answer feedback. The Video Tutors can be easily assigned in Mastering for automatic grading
    • An expanded Diagnostic Exam that now includes 50 questions (previous edition had 35 questions.)
  • The Study Area of Mastering includes a Diagnostic test, Video Tutors, and a Cumulative test. Each of these tests, however, is different from the tests in the Item Library.
    • Chapter Guides contain links to tutorials, animations, activities, and Pearson eText to help students direct their review.
    • Tutorials, animations, and activities allow students to study key concepts and check their understanding.
    • Pearson eText gives students access to the text wherever they have access to the internet. Pearson eText includes the full text including art and figures with a zoom feature that can be used to enlarge them for better viewing. Within Pearson eText students are also able to pop-up definitions and terms to help with vocabulary and the reading of the material. Students can also personalize Pearson eText using the notes and highlight features at the top of each page.
    • Improved Flashcards allow students to build a deck of flashcards, print flashcards, and export flashcards to their mobile phone! Students can choose to include the running words from each chapter and the common prefixes, word roots, and suffixes from Chapter 3.
    • The Pronunciation Glossary allows students to look up the definitions to the running words in the textbook and listen to audio pronunciations for hard-to-pronounce terms.
    • A Diagnostic Test and Cumulative Test are available on the website. The Diagnostic Test assesses students on all chapters in Get Ready for A&P and helps them identify their areas of weakness. After using the textbook and Companion Website, students can use the Cumulative Test to check their progress.
  • Chapter 5 Chemistry now includes an expanded discussion of atomic weight to include mass number; and the sections on covalent bonding, hydrogen bonding, and electrolytes have been reorganized.
