About our author

Norman Scarborough is the William Henry Scott III (Emeritus) Professor of Entrepreneurship at Presbyterian College. In 1980, he was one of the first professors in the United States to create a course in Entrepreneurship (then called Small Business Management), which led him to write the predecessor to this book, Effective Small Business Management, which was first published in 1984 and was published for 12 editions.

Over the course of 42 years, he taught thousands of students in a multitude of courses, ranging from Human Resources Management and Business Statistics to Economics and Business Law (and many others), but his favorite class was always Entrepreneurship. Many of his students have gone on to launch successful businesses of their own, a fact that brings him great joy. He also has consulted with many entrepreneurs and businesses over his career.

He is the author of numerous books and articles and, in 2005, was recognized for his excellence in teaching by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, which named him the South Carolina Professor of the Year. Although he retired from teaching in 2021, he remains active, now working in state government as a utility regulator, a job to which he enjoys bringing the spirit of entrepreneurship. He also gives back to his community, serving as a volunteer and a board member for many nonprofit organizations.
