A comprehensive, accessible introduction to educational research
Educational Research uses engaging, straightforward language to introduce the information and skills required to successfully conduct and competently evaluate research. Accessible and thoughtful guides, the authors provide a total instructional system that lays out clear learning targets and supports students as they practice and develop expertise in both doing and reading research.
The 13th Edition features a new chapter on secondary data research and updated content on descriptive and referential statistics, digital research tools and more.
Hallmark features of this title
- A complete instructional system guides students through the research process, with clear learning outcomes and procedures for evaluating each outcome.
- Complete research articles are included in each chapter presenting research designs. Students will see how real-life research is conducted using that design. Article annotations help students as they learn to read, understand and evaluate quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research.
- Tasks provide step-by-step guidance on the full research process and opportunities to apply learning. Tasks outline how to select a topic, research it, gather and analyze data, and write up results.
- Digital Research Tools features discuss technology tools and applications that researchers can use to make the process of doing research more efficient and effective.
New and updated features of this title
- NEW: Chapter 20, Secondary Data Research, reflects the changing educational research landscape significantly impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter guides the researcher through the steps involved in analyzing previously existing data in new ways to answer new research questions and find new trends in data.
- UPDATED: Chapter 4, Reviewing the Literature, highlights the effects of new and emerging technology on the literature review process. An expanded Digital Research Tools feature covers annotation, brainstorming, citation management, organization, and writing management.
- UPDATED: Chapter 12, Single-Subject Experimental Research Design, reflects the most recent changes in the field. The example article in this chapter represents current trends in single-subject research.
- UPDATED: Chapters 18 and 19 on descriptive and inferential statistics have been significantly updated to account for the latest versions of R, Excel, and SPSS software.
The LMS-Compatible Assessment Bank streamlines assessments and grading
- NEW: Learning outcome quizzes, application exercises and automatically graded chapter tests can be assigned from a packaged file. Questions give students feedback and model responses based on their answers.
Features of Pearson+ eTextbook for the 13th Edition
- NEW: Podcasts include the authors having conversations with various methodologists in the field, bridging the gap between the theoretical and the practical. Method-specific episodes explore qualitative research, quantitative research, action research, and single-case design.
- NEW: R files are provided as accompaniments to the R examples found in text. These files allow the reader to download ready-to-go files that can be used alongside the examples as an enrichment exercise.
