Hallmark Features
Makes content manageable. The innovative modular format breaks content into manageable pieces and makes the text a flexible resource that can suit a range of courses and teaching styles.
- Each chapter is divided into self-contained modules that include learning objectives, content, excerpted court decisions (when applicable), exercises that put students in the position of the judge or jury (Your Decision), and concise bulleted summaries.
- This approach supports use of the book as a traditional full-length text or on a custom basis. Since the modules are self-contained, instructors can opt to teach only the modules that best suit their course.
Provides a balance of law and procedure. Other texts covering both criminal law and criminal procedure fail to give equal coverage to both topics. Worrall and Moore achieve a balance of the two subjects, allocating sufficient attention to all key legal issues.
- Throughout the text, connections between law and procedure are frequently noted and students are directed to other relevant portions of the text when necessary.
Engages students with interesting, up-to-date content. This newly written text covers the topics and issues that are relevant today, and grabs student interest with compelling examples.
- Compared to older texts that have been updated piecemeal, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure features freshly written content that captures the essence of contemporary issues.
- Coverage includes the most recent hot-button topics, including cyberterrorism, sexting, the castle doctrine, “make my day” laws, and more. All the latest key Supreme Court decisions are also included.
- The authors make liberal use of interesting and controversial case examples specifically chosen to engage young students with unique and relatable factual scenarios and encourage lively class discussions.
Improves learning by getting students involved. Each module includes exercises that get students to apply important concepts from the text. Students become actively involved in the learning process.
- “Your Decision” features present hypothetical scenarios that put students in the position of judge or jury. Students are asked to apply material from the module to analyze the scenario and decide on an outcome.
-
“Court Decisions” features in-depth discussion of select cases introduced in the chapter narrative. Quick summaries of the decisions followed by excerpts from the cases go into detail on the logic behind important court decisions governing different aspects of criminal law and criminal procedure.
