About our authors

Frederick E. Gould PE, CPC, has over 40 years of teaching experience at the university level, at both Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA, and Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. He also served as the director of the construction management program at Roger Williams for 18 years. His expertise lies in construction project management, estimating, scheduling and project control. In addition to this text, Professor Gould is author of Managing the Construction Process, now in its 4th edition. He also actively consults in the field, having worked with a wide range of public and private clients, including the US Air Force, Sears Roebuck and NASA. He has developed and taught numerous seminar and short courses in both public and in-house settings and served as a seminar instructor for RS Means for over 15 years. Professor Gould served 2 terms (6 years) as the director for the Northeast region of the Associated Schools of Construction. He is also active in the American Council of Construction Education, where he served as a trustee and chair of the guidance committee and has chaired numerous team accreditation visits to member schools.

Nancy E. Joyce has been an active participant in the design and construction industry for over 40 years. Drawing on a background in sociology and architecture, her expertise lies in assembling and managing design and construction teams for large-scale projects. Ms. Joyce works directly for owners, mostly in higher education and cultural institutions to ensure that projects meet organizational goals. In addition to directing construction projects, Ms. Joyce consults with other organizations as a peer reviewer, analyzing design and construction processes for efficiency and oversight. She also taught a construction management introductory course at the university level, as an adjunct professor, and has been active in community-based education programs for high school students. In addition to this text, Ms. Joyce has written the book Building Stata, published by the MIT press.
