Built from the ground up in MyLab Math, Thinking Quantitatively takes advantage of a digital platform to engage students, having them take a more active role in their learning and coursework. Students are asked to explore the eText, reviewing examples and watching videos, before they experience the concepts by working through their MyLab Math homework exercises – including modeling real-world scenarios in Excel.

New and updated - Excel exercises, now auto-graded, encourage students to use Excel spreadsheets to gain a deeper conceptual understanding of mathematical topics, while applying these skills in a realistic scenario. Excel exercises give students a hands-on opportunity to manipulate, analyze, and communicate using authentic data, and receive immediate feedback with comments to help pinpoint and correct errors.
New - Concept Mastery icons appear at the end of every objective and provide an opportunity for students to organize their knowledge, ensuring understanding of a concept before moving to the next objective.
Extensively revised Guided Worksheets have an entirely new look and organization making them an intuitive companion to the eText. The guided worksheets are organized by objective and provide sections for defining key terms, a summary of concepts, note-taking , guided practice activities, and opportunities to reflect on what they’ve learned.
New - StatCrunch^®– intuitive, web-based statistical software – is now available within the course. Links to StatCrunch applets give students an opportunity to interact with and visualize data related to key text concepts at point of use. The data sets used throughout the course will also be available to use within StatCrunch.

Thoughtful resources have been added to support learning and engaging with the content.

Prior Knowledge Activation (PKA) objectives are interspersed throughout chapters 1-4 of the eText as appropriate, allowing students to revisit material, learned in prior courses or early in the course, directly before the related section that builds on that knowledge. PKA sections address the way students learn today by deliberately activating prior knowledge while rooting out misconceptions. These objectives help students make the connection from what something is to why it is important and how to do something with it.

The Guided Worksheets include an entire section of worksheets to support all PKA objectives. The PKA worksheets provide a section for defining key terms, a concept summary, a note-taking section, and guided practice.

While it is strongly encouraged to start Thinking Quantitatively, 2nd Edition with Chapter 0, Introduction to Excel, the author has also developed spreadsheet tutorial videos placed throughout the etext to reinforce Excel skills at point of use. These can be found at the bottom of relevant screens and in the Multimedia Library.

New - Two new chapters support instructors who want to cover statistics in more depth or place a heavier focus on modeling.

Statistically Speaking (Chapter 12): The previous edition of Thinking Quantitatively had Spotlights on Statistics at the end of most chapters. While the Spotlights have been retained, the concepts have been pulled together and expanded upon for those who wanted to teach a complete chapter on statistics.
Modeling the Real World (Chapter 13): We use models every day to help us make decisions from where to eat, to what car to buy, to who we spend time with, and how much we exercise. Modeling takes what we know and uses that information to predict responses in various situations to help us make informed decisions. While modeling is demonstrated throughout the text, the concept is discussed in more depth in this new chapter.
