For elementary courses in Spanish.

A pace that empowers learning

¡Anda!'s streamlined approach to grammar and vocabulary helps instructors slow the pace of Elementary Spanish. Essential practice communicating, in and outside of class, is part of the framework of the text, providing ample opportunities for students to improve. This highly engaging text offers ways to pause and appreciate all that makes up the exciting Spanish-speaking world to facilitate meaningful learning experiences.

Created to be as concise as possible, the 3rd Edition is comprised of 1 short preliminary chapter at the start and mid-way points, 10 full content chapters, and 2 recycling chapters that reinforce learning.

Hallmark features of this title

  • Time to practice communicating (in and out of class) is built into the text.
  • Integrated cultural content includes high- and pop culture to capture the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Presents vocabulary in relevant, learnable chunks (~100 words/chapter) that empower students to personalize their responses. Vocabulario útil boxes and Appendix 3 build additional vocab skills.
  • “Recycling” lets students return to key material and build on each lesson with 2 reinforcing activities per chapter and 2 full review chapters.
  • Concise, research-based grammar instruction offers examples, practice and opportunities to improve retention with inductive and deductive reasoning activities.
  • Online resources support instructors and help students prepare for class.

New and updated features of this title

  • REVISED: The scope and sequence of the text have been refined to keep students engaged and prepare them for success beyond elementary Spanish.
  • NEW: An all-new Literatura section in every chapter introduces students to authentic literary texts across genres that correspond to chapter themes, exposes them to culture across the Spanish-speaking world, and enhances their reading skills.
  • REVISED: New visual elements have been added to chapter openers to help get students engaged and spark conversation.
  • REVISED: Refined learning outcomes are more clearly set and tested in each chapter. Revised objectives at the start of each chapter help students focus on the key skills they're meant to develop; then Cómo andas? self-checks at the end of each Comunicacíon section assess their progress with those objectives.
  • NEW: 2 additional Escucha activities in each chapter offer students essential listening practice.
  • NEW: Teacher annotations have been added (Lectura, Club cultura, Expansion, Suggestion, Note, and Planning Ahead) to provide additional guidance and options and to aid in lesson planning and implementation for new sections.

Features of MyLab Spanish for the 3rd Edition

  • 10 short films, consistent with the language level of the text, expose students to authentic cultural settings, practices and perspectives. Among the examples included, varying in length from 3-15 minutes, are films from Argentina, Columbia, Cuba, Mexico and Spain.
  • Preparación y práctica activities for each vocabulary and grammar chunk in ¡Anda! online give students quick comprehension practice before they come to class to communicate. An icon and directions in the text alert students when they should complete the activities.
  • Vocabulary presentations feature a new icon that allows students to link to the También se dice Appendix from the eText for vocabulary-building support.
  • ¡Anda! online offers a vocabulary digital zoom tool that allows students to zoom in and hear vocabulary words as they learn outside of class, helping them to quickly assimilate meanings and pronunciation.
  • The Student Activities Manual has been revised and optimized for the best digital experience. New activity types, including LiveChat, drag-and-drop, and more, help students to engage in homework to improve preparedness for class.
  • ¡Anda! program goals are more clearly reflected in the revised testing program with clearer direction lines and more activity types, which allow instructors to personalize assessments for their courses.
