Join Associate Professor Christine Nemacheck where she will discuss strategies for teaching American politics in our polarized political climate. While the session will be focused on teaching an introductory American politics course, it will include strategies that are applicable across political science courses, and most undergraduate courses more broadly. She will address ways to develop a classroom environment where students can engage in civil discussions of important, but often divisive topics, as well as how to handle heated exchanges between students and/or the instructor if they occur.
About the speaker
Christine Nemacheck, Associate Professor, The College of William & Mary
Christine L. Nemacheck is an associate professor of government at The College of William & Mary, where she directs the Center for the Liberal Arts and co-directs the H. Stewart Dunn, Jr. Civil Liberties Project. Her research focuses on judicial selection, judicial federalism and the role of the courts in a separation-of-powers system. Chris has received a number of awards for her teaching and research activity, including the Alumni Fellowship Award for excellence in teaching at The College of William & Mary. She is the former co-editor of the Pi Sigma Alpha Undergraduate Journal of Politics.
