Teaching in the Age of Political Polarization
Discover strategies for teaching American politics in a polarized climate. Professor Nemacheck demonstrates how to create civil discourse in the classroom and manage heated exchanges.
Christine Nemacheck, Associate Professor, The College of William & Mary
Join Associate Professor Christine Nemacheck where she will discuss strategies for teaching American politics in our polarized political climate. While the session will be focused on teaching an introductory American politics course, it will include strategies that are applicable across political science courses, and most undergraduate courses more broadly. She will address ways to develop a classroom environment where students can engage in civil discussions of important, but often divisive topics, as well as how to handle heated exchanges between students and/or the instructor if they occur.
