John Macionis, Professor, Kenyon College

Join respected author and Professor, John Macionis, where he discusses the ever changing family trends in America today and how much it has evolved over the generations of the past.

Among members of the "silent generation" (born between 1925 and 1945), 85 percent lived with a spouse, a child, or both between the ages of 18 and 39. So far, this has been true for just 55 percent of millennials (born between 1982 and 1996). Clearly, "family" remains a major element of social life but one with declining importance over the post three generations. This short presentation identifies significant trends in family life for the population of the United States.

Professor Macionis will be covering a variety of topics this upcoming semester including Economic Inequality in the United States, Two Americas and Polarization, Using Maps to Teach Sociology, Artificial Intelligence, and more.
