About the speaker

Melissa Murray Reedy, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Melissa Reedy earned her baccalaureate degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While an undergrad she worked with Dr. Kimberly Hughes to understand evolutional determinants of life span and genetic and social modifiers for growth, behavior, and fitness. Upon graduation she became a research specialist in this lab taking on the teaching and training of many undergraduates. Here, she fell in love with teaching and decided to move from research to a career focused on undergraduate education. She joined the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois and has taught the introductory lab course and coordinated the lecture course since 2007. During this time, she earned her Master Online Teaching certification and developed an 8-week study skills course titled BioPaSS (Biology Preparation and Study Skills). Melissa is committed to helping her biology students learn the skills necessary to be successful in their undergraduate endeavors and future careers.
