Carlie Steele
Carlie Steele is a 14-year-old girl from Amity and a student at Oregon Connections Academy. She founded the non-profit, Carlie’s Kindness Campaign, when she was only nine years old. Since then she has planned dozens of worldwide events and projects, been nationally recognized, and partnered with corporations like Make-A-Wish, Our Military Kids, and Prudential. She’s very passionate about journalism, leadership, volunteering, and inspiring our youth.

Melissa Steele
Melissa is a mother of three, with Carlie being the youngest. Melissa is a fan of virtual school because it’s a safer environment, more comfortable, has fewer distractions, and provides far greater opportunities for Carlie to thrive as an accelerated student. The flexibility of online learning allows Carlie to do what she loves — spread kindness through her nonprofit, Carlie’s Kindness Campaign. Because Carlie has a flexible schedule she can participate in speaking engagements, philanthropic partnerships, and business meetings that are generally conducted during business hours. With online learning, there’s no such thing as a scheduling conflict.
